Thousands of taxi drivers in Athens will go on strike for two days starting Wednesday. They are protesting against the policy at the airport in the Greek capital. Tourists are expected to be particularly inconvenienced.
Metros and buses will continue to run, but will likely be overcrowded. The taxi drivers are protesting against, among other things, the allocation of special spots for vehicles of taxi service Uber at the arrival hall.
According to them, this unfairly favors Uber. For example, Uber drivers can leave immediately, but taxi drivers have to wait until a customer arrives.
The drivers are also campaigning against new tariff rules set by the Greek Ministry of Finance for trips between the airport and the city center. That rate is 40 euros during the day and 55 euros at night.
According to the drivers, traffic conditions have not been taken into account, making it difficult for them to cover the costs.
