Martijn Krabbé thanks his followers for the “tsunami of love” after announcing in January that he has metastatic lung cancer. “Overwhelming in involvement,” the 57-year-old presenter writes on Instagram. Krabbé also writes that a trip to Asia was canceled due to health problems.
“So much so that I had to decide not to respond much to comments on social media,” Krabbé continues. “But they have been largely read and have offered me a lot of support.”
His family also received a lot of support from the reactions after the interview in LINDA. in which Krabbé shared his situation. “It has helped with a new step in accepting our situation,” writes the presenter. “It’s not that unique at all, I realize now. Many fellow sufferers made themselves heard with all well-intentioned, but always loving advice. Thank you for that!”
Krabbé was planning to go to Sri Lanka and India with his family, but he had to cancel that trip. “I got an acute abdominal inflammation. Of course, that had nothing to do with my diagnosis, but it lasted a month and a half. I spent most of it in the hospital.”
In the meantime, the presenter is doing a little better. “I am slowly building up some fitness again and am happy with the progress,” he says. “And I had enough energy to take a trip with Deborah along the castles of the Loire. Very romantic and very well deserved.”
Krabbé admits that he can be a dragon from time to time. “But a grateful dragon. After all, I am still here and seem to have found my way back up. After a year and a half of living with my illness, every extra day still feels like a gift!”
