Martijn Krabbé thanks his followers for the “tsunami of love” after announcing in January that he has metastatic lung cancer. “Overwhelming in involvement,” the presenter writes on Instagram.
“So much so that I had to decide to respond to social media comments very little,” he writes. “But they have been largely read and have offered me a lot of support.”
His family also got a lot of support from the reactions after the interview in LINDA. in which Krabbé shared his situation. “It helped with a new step in accepting our situation,” he writes. “I realize now that it’s not that unique at all. Many fellow sufferers made themselves heard with all well-intentioned but always loving advice. Thanks for that!”
The presenter has had a difficult period. “I got an acute abdominal inflammation,” he says. “That of course had nothing to do with my diagnosis, but it lasted a month and a half. I spent most of that in the hospital.
I was taken care of very lovingly there, but you don’t get better directly from it.” He had to cancel a planned trip to Sri Lanka and India. “But I was already happy that a visit to ARTIS was accessible again. My favorite animals live there, namely penguins!”
‘I am slowly building up some fitness again’
Krabbé is doing better now. “I am slowly building up some fitness again and am happy with the progress,” he says. “And I had enough energy to take a trip with Deborah along the castles of the Loire. Very romantic and very well deserved”
The presenter admits that he is a dragon from time to time. “But a grateful dragon. After all, I am still here and seem to have found the way up again. After a year and a half of living with my disease, every extra day still feels like a gift!”
