Groningen police arrested two more people on Monday for stealing stuffed animals from the memorial site of Jeffrey (10) and Emma (8), who died in Winschoten. An arrest was also made earlier in the day.
According to police, a 20-year-old man from Leeuwarden, a 20-year-old man from Winschoten, and a minor boy from Winschoten are in custody on suspicion of theft.
The police currently assume that these three people are the only ones involved in the incident. The stuffed animals stolen by the trio have been returned to the memorial site of the deceased children, police wrote in a statement on X.
Earlier in the day, a video circulated on social media of men picking out and taking stuffed animals from the location on the Renselweg in Winschoten. The car containing Jeffrey, Emma, and their father was found in a canal there.
Jeffrey and Emma had been missing since Saturday, May 17. Their father, 67-year-old Klaas B., had picked up the children that afternoon in Beerta, Groningen. A large search operation followed.
On Tuesday evening, police found B.’s car in the water in Winschoten, with several bodies inside. On Wednesday, the family of Jeffrey and Emma confirmed that the bodies were those of Jeffrey, Emma, and B.
