The Netherlands can expect a significant amount of rain in the coming days. On Thursday, it will be very windy, which means that outdoor trips during Ascension Day will be ruined. “It will be autumnal.”
Although Monday is still fairly dry, it will rain more and more in many places tonight. The amount of rain will continue to increase and will peak in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, says Floris Lafeber of Weerplaza.
“We are talking about a substantial area of rain where about 10 to 20 millimeters of water will fall.” In the days that follow, it will remain wet, and Ascension Day will even be “autumnal”. On Thursday there will be a lot of rain and it will be quite windy with wind force 4 or 5.
Until then, it will rain a lot. According to Lafeber, this amount can amount to about 40 millimeters if you include last weekend. “Then you are already at more than half of the monthly total.” Normally, around 60 millimeters of rain falls in the month of May.
But that doesn’t get rid of the drought. “We are still in the 5 percent driest years,” says Lafeber. “It is nice for nature that some rain falls, but in a week we will still have a shortage of about 120 millimeters of rain.” According to the meteorologist, it needs to rain well for a month or longer to completely eliminate that.
Where outdoor trips fall through during Ascension Day, the weather will be better afterwards. “Friday will be more often dry with some sunshine here and there,” predicts Lafeber. The temperature will also rise and the 20 degrees will be in sight again.
