Reusser crowns the top weekend and succeeds Volling in Tour of Burgos

Marlen Reusser won the Tour of Burgos on Sunday. The Swiss rider, who won the individual time trial over 9.41 kilometers on the final day, succeeds Demi Vollering.

Reusser had a strong weekend, also winning a tough mountain stage on Saturday. With the two stage wins in Northern Spain, she underlined her versatility.

The 33-year-old Reusser was six seconds faster than the Frenchwoman Juliette Labous in the time trial from Villasana de Mena to Lezana de Mena. The Italian Elisa Longo Borghini finished third. With her time, she pushed the Dutchwoman Yara Kastelijn from second place in the general classification.

Kastelijn finished second on the Picón Blanco on Saturday and ultimately finished the four-day stage race in third place. This marked the fifth year in a row that a Dutch rider has been on the podium.

“It was a beautiful time trial, completely tailored to me,” Reusser said shortly after the finish. The time trial specialist became European time trial champion in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Since the last European title, she has taken it a bit easier in that discipline.

In 2023 and 2024, the Tour of Burgos was won by Vollering. The Dutchwoman was absent in Spain.
