The suspect in the stabbing in Hamburg that injured eighteen people had been discharged from a psychiatric hospital the day before. The 39-year-old woman was being treated there after she was found “in a helpless condition” earlier this month.
The suspect was discharged from a psychiatric examination on Thursday, according to the German Ministry of Public Health. The woman was reportedly found “in a helpless condition” earlier this month, but the authorities decline to say exactly what she was being treated for due to privacy reasons. According to the clinic, there were no medical reasons to continue treating her.
The day after the stabbing incident, the woman was taken to a psychiatric institution on the orders of the magistrate. Earlier, the police said that there are “very concrete indications of a mental disorder in the suspect.”
The German woman has no fixed abode and is known to the police. They assume that the woman acted alone and that her act is not politically motivated.
Eighteen people were injured in the stabbing at Hamburg Central Station. Their ages range from 19 to 85 years. Four of them were in mortal danger, but according to reports, their condition is now “stable”.
