Young adults struggle with high bills and end up taking out loans. Various studies show that they have started borrowing more and are more likely to run into financial problems. How do you talk to your children about money?

The entire Netherlands is dealing with more expensive groceries and sky-high house prices. As a result, young people without assets and with low incomes are more likely to run short of money. Taking out a loan is also becoming increasingly easy.

Young people are doing this more and more often. Paying afterwards can be arranged online in a few clicks and is also possible in the shopping streets. For young people up to about 25 years old, it is difficult to oversee the consequences of a loan, warns the Netherlands Youth Institute (NJi).
