Marco Borsato must appear in court on October 28 and 30. The singer is suspected of indecent assault with a minor.
The trial will take place in the Utrecht courthouse, Rechtbank Midden-Nederland reports on Wednesday. The substantive hearing of the case starts almost four years after the alleged victim filed a report against the artist. In September 2023, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) decided to prosecute.
Since then, both the OM and Borsato’s lawyers have submitted investigation requests to the examining magistrate. This investigation has been completed, and therefore the case can be dealt with substantively.
The alleged victim states that between 2014 and 2019, when she was still a minor, she was repeatedly molested by Borsato. The singer allegedly put his hand under her skirt and stroked her between her legs. The alleged victim got to know Borsato through her mother, who was friends with the singer and had a role in his fan club.
Borsato denies the allegations and sued the alleged victim for defamation. The singer has rarely appeared in public since the allegations.
