A 1967 case in the United Kingdom has been resolved. After almost six decades, 92-year-old Ryland Headley was convicted of raping and killing Louisa Dunne in Bristol. It would be the passing cold case that was once solved in the country.
On June 28, 1967, the 75-year-old thin death was found by the neighbors. They started to worry when thin her newspaper did not pick up the wall in the front garden.
When determining her cause of death, it was found that thin had died due to strangulation and suffocation. She was also raped.
After her death, a major police investigation followed in which more than nineteen thousand palm prints of men are tested. No print turned out to match the prints in the house of Dunne. The police also made eight thousand home visits and they purchased two thousand statements.
Due to a meeting of old and new police techniques, as the police describe it, the perpetrator was found 58 years later.
In 2023 the case was reopened by the police. Forensic experts found remains of male seed in the skirt of Dunne and could link it to Headley. After his arrest, his hand print appeared to match a print that was found on one of the windows in the house of Dunne.
Headley had previously known guilt for two burglaries and rapes in Suffolk in 1977. Now he was also found guilty of raping and killing thin by a jury. On Tuesday he hears his punishment. According to Detective Dave Marchant, who is involved in the case, it is “the longest running cold case that has been resolved in the country”.
