A group of 250 cultural institutions in the Netherlands and Belgium has announced a cultural boycott of Israel. Accordance to the initiators, The Boycott is intended for organizations that do not speak out against Violations of International Law by Israel.
The Boycott Means, Among Other Things, That Organizations and Artists Will not Enter Into Collaborations with the Israeli Organizations They Consider Involved and Will not Show Their Work on Israeli Stages, at Museums or Film Festivals.
Among Others, The Netherlands Film Festival, The Museum of Fine Arts Ghent and the Rijksakademie of Visual Arts Support The Boycott. A Number of Prominent Figures in the Cultural World, Including Eric Corton, Dinand Woesthoff, Nasrdin Dchar and Maryam Hassouni also Support the Call.
In A Statement, The Signatories Say They Wish “To No Longer Stand On The Sidelines of War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity and A Genocide of the Palestinian People Recognized by All Authoritative Institutions”.
Israeli Institutions That Have Spoken Out Against The Government’s Policy Are Not Covered by The Cultural Boycott. “The Boycott is explicitly not aimed at individuals or their origin, so not at Israelis as Such, but at the complicity of Israeli Institutions and Companions in Human Rights Volations Againstinians.”
The initiators also call on the sports sector, The Academic World, the Economic Sector and Politics to Sever Ties with Israel. “Only together can we force Israel to comply with international law.”
